Discover the King's League at Mediterranean Sports Village - Saiyans FC

At Mediterranean Sports Hub, we have welcomed many teams carrying out their training camps. Teams of all levels and ages, from countries all over the world, and even from relatively unknown sports. But what we had never welcomed before was a project created to break with everything that had been established in football up to that point. We welcomed Saiyans FC, one of the teams in Gerard Piqué’s famous King’s League.

Gerard Piqué’s King’s League: a unique competition in the world

In November 2022, former FC Barcelona and Spanish national team football player Gerard Piqué announced the creation of a new competition. A 7-a-side football tournament that aimed to revolutionise leisure and entertainment: the King’s League.

The competition consisted of 12 teams, each presided over by a streamer or influencer who would manage the club, signing coaches, players, etc. Players joined the competition through a Draft, in true American style, where the 12 teams took turns selecting players to build the best possible squad. The creation of the clubs, the selection of players and even the competition rules and matches were all designed to promote spectacle and offer a fresh and different sports entertainment product.

The success of the first two months of the competition was such that, once the league had finished, they managed to hold the final phase (Play-off) at Camp Nou, filling the FC Barcelona stadium with 92,522 spectators.

Saiyans FC: The Grefg’s team

One of the teams competing in the King’s League is Saiyans FC, presided over by the well-known video game streamer The Grefg. The team finished as the fourth-best team in the league, which gave them access to the Play-off.

They had to prepare thoroughly to have a chance of winning the final, and to achieve this, Saiyans FC came to Mediterranean Sports Hub. Three days of training camp at our facilities, with training sessions on our natural and artificial grass pitches and additional gym sessions. To round off their demanding training sessions, they relaxed at the Resort’s spa.

Some of the players created personal vlogs documenting their experience of spending a training camp at professional facilities such as those at Mediterranean Sports Hub. This was the case, for example, of Gio Ferinu and the famous TikToker Temo, who shared what a typical day is like for a team carrying out a training camp at our facilities.

The club’s president, The Grefg, reacted to one of these vlogs on his Twitch channel and said: “this place makes me feel happy”, referring to our facilities.
